Java software engineer (senior)

The Investment Management Solutions team is looking for a lead de-central developer to help lead the development of the next version of the “Unit Link” (“Investment Account Free/Investeringskonto FRI”) solution. This solution already exists, and it is the basis of a very attractive investment product which BEC has built for the service customer Sparinvest. Now we need to build new features on the solution so the product can become even more attractive for the bank’s investment customers.

You will be joining a completely new team, with the sole responsibility of working on Unit Link version 2.0, so apart from developing the solution you will also be asked to help form the team, its culture and its way of working together. Said in another way. This is a great opportunity. 

At BEC, we prefer to collaborate often in the office, but we also keep the opportunity to work remotely up to 8 days per month. 

WHAT’S THE ROLE ABOUT? 

You will be joining a full development team placed in both Poland and Denmark. The current solution is mainly on a decentral development platform (BEC PaaS). The remaining team will consist of Java developers, Mainframe developers and business analysts. From a leadership point of view the team will have a dedicated Product Owner and a Development Manager.

As a lead developer in this team it will be your responsibility both to take on your own development tasks, but also to act as a sparring partner for the remaining developers in the team. You would also be charged with investigating and taking decisions with in the architectural space. The role does not include formal line management.

The team will be working on an individual task for the service customer Sparinvest Fri and in close collaboration with team members from Sparinvest and Nykredit. This means that you will be asked to work very closely and directly together with our customers on a daily basis. The project has some very ambitious goals and for that reason we are also looking for very ambitious and skilled people to join. It would be an advantage to have some insight into the area of securities trading, but it is not a requirement, and if you do not have this insight, you could consider this a great opportunity to get insight and experience within this very important and technology driven business area.

Primary task and responsibilities include: 

  • Systems development on the basis of Java development skills including writing code, testing undertaking deployment, some support and documentation
  • Architectural analysis and decision in the team in a similar manner as a team architect.
  • Be able to act as a sparring partner for less experienced developers in the team. In addition you will likely also take a role as a knowledge partner for the Development manager and Product Owner in the team.
  • Write well designed, testable, efficient code to support varied and complex IT solutions, that fulfil the requirements of our customer Sparinvest.
  • Taking a lead role in the team and taking responsibility for developing and implementing IT solutions as well as new technologies.
  • Preparing technical and procedural documentation associated with IT development. 

To succeed you will have:  

  • Excellent knowledge of Java 8+
  • Excellent knowledge of Spring Boot and the Spring Core services
  • Sound understanding RESTful API Design & Implementation as well as Microservices
  • JPA, SQL and Database Design, Implementation, Optimization
  • Experience with que technologies like MQ and Kafka
  • Knowledge of Distributed Programming
  • Clean Code/Clean architecture/SOLID principles
  • Experience with test-driven development (TDD)
  • The team is based in Denmark and Poland so experience in working in such a cross-border setup is an advantage.
  • Energy, ambition and a willingness to deliver results 
  • Comfort working in a new team where you will also be asked to help form this team
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

It’s nice-to-have: 

  • Domain knowledge in the Wealth Management domain.
  • Knowledge of investment, securities account and trading business area and systems in general
  • Experience with system architecture in particular integration patterns
