Consultancy in Neuro Ophthalmology combined with a clinical professorship in Ophthalmology with special focus on Neuro Ophthalmology

A clinical position as consultant in Neuro Ophthalmology at the Department of Ophthalmology at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Ophthalmology with special focus on Neuro Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Ophthalmology at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Ophthalmology, Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet is the only Ophthalmology department in the Capital Region and serves 1.8 million people. For a number of subspecialties, the Department covers the entire eastern part of Denmark with 2.5 million inhabitants. The Department collaborates with clinical neurologists, neurosurgeons, and geneticists both within Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet as well as other hospitals. The appointed professor will participate in these collaborations to secure high quality care for patients in all of Denmark. This includes development of the field, further development of clinical trials, tools for prognostication, as well as participation in regional, national, and international professional bodies within the field.

The Department of Ophthalmology is organized in sections and subspecialized teams. In the clinical work, the appointed professor will refer to the section management that consists of a consultant and a section leading nurse.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The clinical work of appointed professor will consist of the management of patients with neuro-ophthalmological ocular disorders. Participation in other fields of ophthalmology can be considered as per the needs of the department, and the interests of the professor.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in Neuro Ophthalmology and clinical professor of Ophthalmology with special focus on Neuro Ophthalmology the Department of Ophthalmology wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Ophthalmology.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Ophthalmology. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Ophthalmology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Ophthalmology.
