Head of IT at IMS

IMS (International Media Support) supports local independent media and media advocacy groups in countries affected by conflict, political transition and authoritarian rule. Established in 2001, the organisation has since worked with hundreds of local and international partners to support independent journalism, freedom of expression and the safety of journalists.

As Head of IT you will manage and coordinate operations related to IT, information security and facilities management of the Copenhagen office for IMS. You will liaise closely with the Executive Management to protect the organization and ensure a safe environment, both physically and digitally. On a daily level you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to keep abreast of technical, legal, and professional trends and coordinate with different area owners/stakeholders to ensure that IT, policies, procedures and coordination are aligned.

You will focus on supporting organisational activities through process optimization, digitalization and data use while creating a higher degree of central overview and management of the development of the system and risk management landscape.
You will have an architectural cross-cutting look on IT, and you are able to set a direction in close cooperation with the IMS IT Architect and are prepared to handle the continuously changing security/risk landscape that comes with digitalization and new systems. 

You will also facilitate the smooth running of the current headquarters office in Copenhagen, ensuring day to day operations continue, including liaising with landlord, local suppliers, contractors, etc. As IMS focal point you will lead the transition to a new Civil Society Organization (CSO) house in September 2025, which will require collaboration with eight other NGOs to ensure a seamless move. 

As Head of IT

  • System optimization within IT across IMS globally
  • Making sure that IT procedures meet legal requirements and technical standards.
  • Responsible for technology solutions and innovative risk management and security management techniques to manage risk and safeguard the organization’s IT assets.
  • Planning and coordination of education and training to increase IT and information security - including awareness among staff/partners.
  • Establishment of appropriate standards and associated risk controls
  • Oversee Systems Process and Development Working group.
  • Negotiation of business-related IT and local facilities contracts and monitoring of how these are delivered, and responsibility for the IT budget.

Facility Management

  • Project lead for moving IMS headquarters to a new CSO house in September 2025 whilst maintaining operational continuity during the transition. Hereafter there will be a need to remain proactive and coordinate with the CSO House management team.
  • Additionally oversee IMS current HQ facilities, daily logistics and smooth running of the house and HQ running cost budget.

In addition, we emphasize the following professional qualifications:

  • An education that strengthens your analytical and business profile.
  • Experience from a combination of IT operations and development as well as the preparation of SLAs and KPIs.
  • Experience with optimization projects and data use in a complex organization.
  • Architectural system overview and management advice
  • Accustomed to operating business-critical systems such as ERP and other critical business solutions
  • Management experience + proven experience as a project manager.
  • Strong interdisciplinary and intercultural team-working skills
  • Fluent in Danish and English, written and oral is a requirement.

Experience working in an international environment is considered an asset.

Your colleagues: 
You will directly manage a team of up to 3 employees responsible for IT and facilities management, and as part of the Operational Management Team will work closely with the other Head of Units.

Duration and location
The position is 37 hours/week and applicants should have a permit to work in Denmark and be able to commute to Copenhagen. Compensation commensurate with experience and IMS policies, Starting date: latest 1 August 2024.
