Senior Legal Counsel

Energi Danmark is a leading energy trading company. We accelerate the energy transition by bridging and servicing producers of renewable energy and large B2B consumers. We are active within physical and financial energy trading, portfolio management, and associated trading in derivative financial instruments. We are an international organization headquartered in Aarhus with 250 employees distributed at our offices in Aarhus, Søborg, Malmö, Oslo, and Helsinki. We are currently strengthening our Legal & Compliance team with a Senior Legal Counsel. The team consist of 7 skilled specialists including the VP Legal & Compliance and two Compliance Officers. Legal & Compliance’s main area of responsibility is to identify and mitigate all legal and compliance risks within the Energi Danmark group.

 

YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITY

Your main task will be to use your skills within energy law in relation to energy trading and services contracts and to ensure access to new markets, new products, and trading platforms as well as monitor regulatory development. 

You will quickly gain independent case responsibility combined with the necessary sparring. Your closest sparring partner will be the VP, Legal & Compliance, and you will be closely linked to the business teams of Energi Danmark as well as the support functions in the group. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting and negotiating various types of energy contracts (typically customized agreements), especially PPA’s, but also GSA’s, wholesale agreements, cooperation agreements, sales agreements, certificate trading agreements, agreements related to financial products, etc. 
  • Assisting and advising on standardized agreements such as EFET (Former European Federation of Energy Traders, now Energy Traders Europe) agreements and similar sector standards. 
  • Provision of legal advice and assistance in connection with the structuring and implementation of new trading strategies and energy products.
  • Ensuring compliance with legislation and other regulatory requirements specifically related to energy agreements together with the Compliance team.
  • Assisting or leading strategic legal projects in the group.
  • Supporting the business in various day-to-day legal matters on a range of other legal subjects.

 

YOUR PROFILE

Education: You are a qualified lawyer (Master of Laws, cand.jur., cand.merc.jur. or equivalent) with a strong academic legal background combined with min. at least 5 years of practical experience within relevant legal areas.

Industry: Preferably, you have practical experience from a commercial environment such as a law firm, trading company and/or a larger private company ideally within the energy or related industry.

Legal areas: You have strong competencies within commercial law and preferably energy law, such as energy- and trading agreements.  

Commercial mindset: Strong commercial mindset enabling you to balance legal requirements with the commercial drivers and goal of the business. 

Language skills: You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in one of the Nordic and English languages, and substantial experience with legal English in relation to drafting and negotiating.

Location: Legal & Compliance is based in Aarhus, however Energi Danmark can offer you the possibility of working partly remotely or from one of the group’s other offices in the Nordics (including Søborg near Copenhagen in Denmark). You should expect to travel to Aarhus regularly if you are based in one of the other offices in the Nordics.
