Overall purpose of the role:

The Economic Recovery Assistant (agronomist) must possess a background in agriculture, as this role is vital for supporting the implementation of the Economic Recovery agricultural project in Diyala. The position involves contributing to the meticulous execution of agricultural project plans aimed at promoting sustainable economic development for farmers in Diyala governorate.  

Responsibilities:

Implement Economic Recovery Programs 

- Resource Management: Assist in the development and implementation of projects aimed at improving water management, irrigation systems, and the overall efficiency of farm operations. 

- Participate in agricultural trainings and provide support to the Agronomist officer. 

- Field Activities Planning and Implementation: Engage in the planning and execution of cash-based interventions in the target area, which include SME development, business grant (BG) distributions, job placements, financial literacy training, rotating savings and credit associations (RoSCA), business coaching and mentoring. Collaborate with the private sector and government institutions on agricultural activities, including climate change initiatives and cash-for-work activities at DRC sites. 

- Process Management: Handle the process from registration to training and cash distributions. 

- Technical Support: Support the preparation of technical farms assessments and purchase requests as directed by the Team Leader and/or Project Manager. 

- Challenge Identification and Reporting: Identify and report challenges to superiors and contribute to solution development. 

Agronomist Tasks 

- Agricultural Support: Provide technical assistance and training to local farmers on best agricultural practices, including crop rotation, soil health, pest control, and sustainable farming techniques. 

- Farm Assessments: Conduct assessments of local farms to identify needs and opportunities for improvement in agricultural productivity. 

- Crop Selection: Advise on suitable crop varieties based on local soil and climate conditions to maximize yield and sustainability. 

Team Support 

- Coordination: Assist in coordinating economic recovery assistants and temporary enumerators. 

- Task Completion: Ensure tasks are completed and responsibilities are fulfilled. 

- Performance Support: Collaborate on addressing performance concerns and supporting Performance Improvement Plans. 

  Field Assessments and Documentation 

- Assessments and Surveys: Participate in field assessments and surveys, including market assessments, price monitoring, labor market assessment/analysis, and social cohesion mapping. 

- Documentation: Contribute to compiling and submitting written project updates, project reports, and narrative documents as needed. 

- Procurement Documentation: Support the timely preparation of procurement documentation in line with DRC requirements. 

  Inclusivity and Community Engagement 

- Facilitation: Facilitate inclusive participation among community members, considering factors like gender, age, ethnic identities, clan, and tribal affiliations. 

- Engagement: Engage in activities with an Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) and conflict-sensitive approach. 

  Compliance and Reporting 

- Adherence to Procedures: Ensure all activities adhere to DRC's procedures, requirements, and regulations.
