As our experienced Senior Data Engineer, you will support our continued digital and data transformation journey by shaping and building our next-generation data platform on Databricks.

 

About the Role

You will design, build, and optimize enterprise-scale Lakehouse solutions on Databricks for a multi-channel retail business. You will play a central role in transforming raw data into reliable, scalable, and business-ready insights using technologies such as Delta Lake, PySpark, and Unity Catalog.

You will collaborate closely with internal Engineering teams, Programme Managers, Architects, and strategic partners to establish the future state of our data platform and ensure best-in-class engineering practices.

In the role you will report into our Enterprise Architect and be a part of the Technology department based at our Headquarters in Copenhagen.

 

Your responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable medallion architecture pipelines (Bronze, Silver, Gold) for both batch and streaming workloads.
  • Develop and optimize Spark and Databricks workloads to improve performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Lead performance tuning initiatives using techniques such as: Z-Ordering, Photon, Predicate pushdown, Partitioning strategies, Broadcast joins, Caching and File size optimization.
  • Implement governance, security, and data lineage frameworks using Unity Catalog.
  • Enable self-service analytics capabilities for business users across the organization.
  • Automate deployments and infrastructure through CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Collaborate with Programme Managers on estimation and planning of engineering initiatives.
  • Partner with Data Architects and Principal Data Engineers to define the target architecture for the data platform.
  • Drive continuous improvements across the overall data landscape and engineering practices.
  • Mentor and support colleagues by promoting engineering excellence and best practices.

 

About you

We are looking for a passionate and experienced data engineering professional who thrives in building modern, scalable, and business-critical data platforms. You combine strong technical expertise with a collaborative mindset and enjoy working closely with both technical and business stakeholders.

To succeed in this role, you bring:

  • Solid experience within modern Data Engineering and Lakehouse architectures, ideally from enterprise-scale environments.
  • Extensive hands-on expertise with Databricks, Apache Spark, and cloud-based data platforms.
  • Strong programming capabilities in Python (PySpark) and SQL, with a focus on building robust and maintainable data solutions.
  • A deep understanding of data modeling principles, data governance, and scalable data platform design.
  • Experience optimizing large-scale data workloads for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Knowledge of modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD automation and Infrastructure as Code.
  • The ability to translate complex technical challenges into practical and business-oriented solutions.

As a person you have a proactive mindset with a passion for improving architecture, processes, and engineering standards. You are bringing great collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to mentor and guide colleagues across teams.

It is considered an advantage if you also have experience with:

  • MLflow and MLOps practices.
  • Azure Synapse Analytics.
  • Databricks certifications.
  • Retail or omnichannel business environments.
