Shelter & Settlements Intern

Overall purpose of the role

We are looking for an intern who will work at DRC East Africa & Great Lakes Regional Office in Nairobi. The intern will have the opportunity to enable DRC to work more effectively with operationalizing the Shelter & Settlements Sector, and specifically support the expand the network and implement the activities established within the sector. The position will further give support to the Global Shelter & Settlements Sector. The intern will support various projects with communication, documentation, and internal information management. 

Responsibilities:

COMMUNICATION 

  • Support the roll-out of global trainings & induction (online), planning & coordination. 
  • Support event organisation incl. Logistics. 
  • Strengthen communication on the DRC Shelter & Settlements sector:  
    • Editing InSite Sector page content and news articles: e.g. support with maintenance, editing and upload of information to DRC Insite pages and SharePoint
    • Updating/posting/editing intranet Shelter & Settlements Sector content; 
    • Developing/maintaining Shelter & Settlements Sector mailing list;
    • Support development and roll-out of webinars and e-learning modules; 
    • Support with developing / editing guidance and policy material for internal / external use in the sector;
    • Mapping Shelter & Settlements sector staff & projects across DRC country operations;
    • Fulfill some basic administrative tasks.

INFORMATION & KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT 

  • Strengthen information on Shelter & Settlements Sector: 
    • Practical support to gathering and disseminating relevant sector tools/templates 
    • Logistical/practical help related to relevant sector products & processes 
  • Light research on relevant issues and other relevant ad hoc tasks;  
  • Assisting in rolling out e-learning tools and / or global events; 

DONOR REPORTING AND COMPLIANCE 

  • Support with donor reporting (mainly editing); 
  • Supporting with maintaining DRC Insite Shelter & Settlement Page. 

There may be additional tasks assigned depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate.

Experience and technical competencies:

  • Be enlisted at a university for a relevant education (architecture. Engineer or international relations, international development or related field)
  • Be fluent in both written and spoken English (fluency in French is an advantage)
  • Have good analytical skills 
  • Have good communication skills (written and verbal) 
  • Be comfortable using Zoom, Teams and have decent IT skills 
  • Have the required permits to work and live in Kenya 

 

Conditions

Contract:       Three months contract with possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance.

Availability:    June  2023
