Support Services Officer (English Teacher)

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations. 

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 700 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a Support Services Officer (English Teacher) for its office in Chernihiv, who will enable staff members of the organization to improve their English language skills, fostering effective communication within the organization.

This position will report to the Support Services Manager.

Main responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver English language group courses for staff members of the Danish Refugee Council in Chernihiv, ensuring effective language acquisition and strong communication skills development.
  • Assess and accommodate different proficiency levels among learners.
  • Individual instruction to various proficiency levels: Customize lesson plans and materials to accommodate learners with varying levels of English proficiency, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Customize lesson plans and materials to meet individual learning needs.
  • Improve cross-cultural communication within the organization.
  • Enhance staff collaboration and effectiveness in achieving the organization's mission.
  • Respond to exceptional requests for administration tasks as agreed with the line manager.
  • Implement innovative teaching strategies and teaching materials.
  • Monitor and evaluate learner progress.
  • Train and prepare staff to obtain English language certification as needed.

Required experience and competencies:

  • Higher education in a relevant specialty or an equivalent professional qualification
  • We expect you to have at least 3 years of work experience in English Teaching.
  • Adaptability to tailor instruction to different learning styles and levels.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Stress resistance and a positive attitude towards tasks.
  • High professional ethics and understanding of privacy policy.
  • Certified level of English.
  • Certification in relevant teaching qualifications (preferred).
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Ukrainian language.

We offer

  • Contract length: Open-ended contract upon successful completion of the three-month probation period.
  • Type of contract: Part-time.
  • Working hours: Monday-Friday 08:30-13:30 or 13:00-18:00 depending on the request.

  • Start date: As soon as possible.
