Open Rank (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) in business process automation and artificial intelligence in Information Systems at IT University of Copenhagen

The IT University of Copenhagen invites applications for full-time open-rank faculty positions at the levels of Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor, depending on the candidate’s qualifications. The proposed starting date is January 1st, 2025, or soon thereafter.

We invite applicants who want to contribute to the IT University's vision of creating and sharing knowledge that is profound and leads to ground-breaking information technology and services for the benefit of humanity. The IT University is in a restructuring process and the position will be anchored in a section from January 1, 2025.

Focus for the position(s)
The IT University is looking to strengthen its research and teaching within information systems with specific focus on business process automation and artificial intelligence (AI). In line with the profile of one of the ITU University´s existing departments, namely Business IT, the candidates should take a socio-technical perspective on the topic. The candidates are expected to conduct research and research-based teaching in at least one or more of the following areas:  

  • Organizational implementation of automation technologies (e.g., business process management systems, robotic process automation, blockchain, case management systems, machine learning, generative AI, low-code platforms, collaboration platforms, and algorithmic management systems)
  • Interplay of organizational routines and digital technologies
  • Management of AI, including responsible use of AI, AI governance, and AI risk management
  • Human-AI collaboration, including AI-based task automation and task augmentation
  • Organizational implementation of business process analysis technologies (e.g., process mining)

The successful candidate(s) will engage in interdisciplinary research in the areas mentioned above, using quantitative, qualitative, or design research methods. Moreover, they should deliver excellent research-based teaching in the areas mentioned above. The teaching will be within the bachelor and master programs offered by the Business IT department, wherein most courses are held in English. The candidate will be required to teach courses such as Business Process Modelling & Automation and Process Innovation, covering both social and technical aspects.

Successful candidates at the Associate or Full Professor level will be offered a permanent contract, while successful candidates at the Assistant Professor level will be offered a 3-year contract.

Evaluation of the candidate(s)
Applicants will be evaluated based on the Competency Development Profiles for research and the Competency Development Profiles for teaching at the IT University, which outline the qualifications expected at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor level.

All the positions require academic qualifications at PhD level and the candidate must have the ability to read/speak a Scandinavian language or the willingness to learn Danish.

In addition, for the Associate Professor and the Full Professor position, candidates should be able to:

  • Attract external research funding
  • Supervise PhD students

General information
The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) is a teaching and research-based tertiary institution concerned with information technology (IT) and the opportunities it offers. The IT University has more than 160 full-time academics. Research and teaching in information technology span all academic activities which involve computers including computer science, information and media sciences, humanities, and social sciences, business impact, and the commercialisation of IT.

Salary and terms of employment
Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Taxation’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and the job structure for academic staff at Universities.

  • Copies of max. 5 different publications of research at a high international level in well-respected peer-reviewed venues that are relevant to the position (the publications should be numbered)
  • For candidates applying for the Assistant professor position: documentation of pedagogical experience and teaching record within at least one of the teaching areas listed for the position
  • For candidates applying for the Associate professor or the Full Professor position: documentation of a) received observation and feedback on teaching, b) pedagogical experience and training courses as a teacher, c) a formal written assessment of teaching competence and d) a teaching record within at least one more of the teaching areas listed for the position
  • For candidates applying for the Associate professor or the Full Professor position: a record of contributing to the goals of the institutions in which the candidate has worked, for example participation in committees, etc.
  • For candidates applying for the Full Professor position: A short plan outlining and arguing for the intended research and teaching initiatives and engagements (2-3 A4 pages)
  • For candidates applying for the Full Professor position: A memorandum stating your most important scientific work relevant to the position and your contribution to such work (2-3 A4 pages)
  • For candidates applying for the Full Professor position: Information indicating experience and results in Ph.D. supervision, research management, fundraising, and research cooperation

The applicant will be accessed according to the Appointment Order from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of 13 March 2012.

The IT University may use shortlisting in connection with the recruitment process. In case of shortlisting, the Chair of the hiring committee selects applicants for assessment in consultation with the hiring committee after the application deadline. All applicants are notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The shortlisting of candidates for assessment is based on the criteria in the job posting.
