The Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) wishes to hire a Research Assistant in CGE energy and transport modelling economics. This is a three-year, fixed-term position.
The Institute
The ESRI, founded in 1960, is based in Dublin’s South Docklands area. Our mission is to produce high quality research, relevant to Ireland’s economic and social development, with the aim of contributing to knowledge and informing policymaking and public debate. The Research Programme on Climate, Energy and Economy at the ESRI
The ESRI has maintained an energy research programme since the 1990s, covering energy demand, electricity markets, and energy efficiency. In 2017, the ESRI initiated a new, parallel research programme on Climate, Energy and the Economy to enhance the modelling capability of assessing the relationship between economic trends, policies, energy demand, and associated greenhouse gas emissions. To date, this has involved constructing an energy Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model of the Irish economy, namely the Ireland Environment, Energy and Economy (I3E) model (www.esri.ie/current-research/the-i3e-model). The research programme aims to analyse energy/environment policy and other climate and energy issues in Ireland. More specifically, it will be used to advise on the impacts of various climate policy options across sectors as well as estimate future energy demand for emission projection purposes. The ESRI has strong links to a wide range of key stakeholders, and this research has been extensively used as input to policymaking and is expected to significantly influence energy and climate change policy in Ireland going forward.

Cúntóir Taighde - Clár Aeráide, Fuinnimh agus Geilleagair
Tá chúntóir taighde san eacnamaíocht samhaltaithe, fuinnimh CGE agus iompair á lorg ag an ITES. Leanfaidh an conradh ar feadh trí bhliain.
An Institiúid
Bunaíodh An Institiúid um Thaighde Eacnamaíochta agus Sóisialta sa bhliain 1960 agus tá sé suite i gceantar na ndúigí, Baile Átha Cliath. Is é misean an institiúid taighde de ard chaighdeán a roinnt atá ábhartha do fhorbairt eacnamaíocht agus sóisialta na hÉireann. Tá thar 100 bhaill foirne; eacnamaí, socheolaí, eolaí sóisialta agus foireann thacaíocht agus theicniúil.
An Clár Taighde ar Aeráid, Fuinneamh agus Geilleagar san ITES
Tá clár taighde fuinnimh á chothabháil ag an ITES ó na 1990idí, clúdaíonn sé éileamh fuinnimh, margaí leictreachais, agus éifeachtacht fuinnimh. I 2017, chuir an ITES tús le clár taighde nua ar Aeráid, Fuinneamh agus an Geilleagar chun cumas samhaltaithe a fheabhsú maidir le measúnú a dhéanamh ar an ngaol idir treochtaí eacnamaíocha, beartais, éileamh fuinnimh, agus astaíochtaí gás ceaptha teasa. Go dtí seo, tá samhail fhuinnimh (CGE) den gheilleagar Éireannach déanta acu, go sonrach, an tsamhail Timpeallacht, Fuinneamh agus Geilleagar na hÉireann (I3E) (www.esri.ie/current-research/the-i3e-model). Tá sé mar aidhm ag an gclár taighde beartas fuinnimh/comhshaoil agus saincheisteanna aeráide agus fuinnimh eile in Éirinn a anailísiú. Go sonrach, úsáidfear é chun comhairle a thabhairt ar thionchair roghanna éagsúla beartais aeráide trasna earnálacha. Measfaidh sé éileamh fuinnimh sa todhchaí, le haghaidh réamh-mheastacháin astaíochtaí. Tá naisc láidre ag an ITES le raon leathan de phríomhpháirtithe leasmhara.
