Job Objective
As an engineering multiskilled technician you will carry out diagnostics, repair or replace malfunctioning electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, hydraulic components of equipment and carry out planned preventative maintenance in accordance with the preventative maintenance plan thus ensuring the plant is maintained to the highest standard . Be proactive by routinely inspecting equipment, cabling panels, to ensure they are up to standard.
Duties and Responsibilities
Unit Performance
- Carry out diagnostics, repair or replace malfunctioning electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, hydraulic components of equipment
- Organise safe maintenance principles for regulating and scheduling breakdowns.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance in accordance with the preventative maintenance plan thus ensuring the plant is maintained to the highest standard.
- Assisting with equipment upgrades from external contractors and Management to ensure all new equipment is commissioned to the agreed time frame.
- Be proactive by routinely inspecting equipment, cabling panels, to ensure they are up to standard.
- Perform effective troubleshooting and corrective actions to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units.
- Ability to prioritise reactive tasks in order of urgency and impact to business.
- Proactive in familiarising themselves with new machinery/equipment.
- Completion and adherence to current and future engineering systems.
- Problem solving, root cause analyses ensuring a solution for all required tasks in a timely manner.
- Provide assistance and manage contractors’ roles for electrical/mechanical duties.
- Ensure that electrical/mechanical activity in the production areas conforms to GMP standards and promotes a safe and healthy work environment through the continuous improvement of safety standards.
- Flexible working hours to cover the engineering, production and project requirements.
- Support the Process engineer and your team in driving Lean/Optimisation initiatives using lean tools and implement initiatives across your area equipment and process in order to maximise reliability, utilising Problem-Solving tools including the 5 whys as a means to addressing the root cause of equipment problems.
- Ensure that equipment productivity (as measured by efficiency) is maximised through the continuous monitoring and trending of improvements and equipment availability (downtime reduction & increased uptime).
- Ensure that all activity in the unit areas conforms to GMP standards and promotes a safe and healthy work environment through the continuous improvement of safety standards.
- Day to day work loads to be controlled and managed through CMMS.
Unit Quality
- Implement company GMP policies to maintain standards
- Facilitate inspections and action inspection reports
- Ensure quality of product is maintained above required levels
- Achieve agreed internal and external customer satisfaction targets
- Ensure that engineering activity in the production unit conforms to quality standards and promotes excellent product and process quality through the application of TPM principles
Unit Cost
- Track all costs in terms of labor and materials used by recording accurate information on Pirana.
- Be aware of maintenance budget and controls to keep within budget.
- Suggest ideas and initiatives to improve your process or assets performance.
Unit Compliance
- Surpass minimum quality standards and measures in your areas.
- Assist team to achieve health and safety targets
- Comply with relevant HR policies and procedures
- Comply with company reporting needs
- Proactively identify and correct any risks identified in your areas.

Requirments
Experience
- Over 5 years’ experience in FMCG Industry.
- Experience in the Food Operations sector.
- Experience in a poultry process industry (desirable).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal Skills.
- Ability to apply lean principles in practical application.
Educational Qualifications
- Qualified with an Electrical/Mechanical Trade Qualification
- Computer Literate Microsoft Word & Excel

Key Performance Indicators
- Technical / Engineering Downtime Targets to be achieved.
- Recording of downtime on all assets using the CMMS system.
- All work activities recorded through the CMMS system.
- Operate safe maintenance principles Achieve AIR Targets
- Training plan to be adhered to – achieve target as per training plan objectives
- Meet or exceed preventive maintenance targets for your assets
- All compliances associated with Quality, GMP, H&S, Employee wellbeing, food safety and environmental are adhered to and targets set by your direct manager are achieved or exceeded.
