MCPH Unit Manager

Job Objective 

As MCPH Production Manager, you will have overall accountability for all activities relating to the MCPH. You will have a proven track record in change or transformation supported by cross-functional ways of working and be skilled in leading all initiatives to support Manor Farm's Evolution Programme over the coming years. You will possess the ability to understand and consider the Unit's long-term vision and objectives when carrying out and overseeing week-to-week unit activities.

The Unit Manager looks to you to ensure your Unit works well in ways that meet your KPIs and contribute to them meeting theirs as relevant. Senior Management looks to you to be a trusted, decisive, high performing, customer-focused, quality managing, cost-conscious and staff-empowering leader. You will balance taking control on occasions that need such an approach. Still, more often than not, you will lead through your shift managers and team leads to give them the confidence to make decisions within parameters that are relevant to their role, their skill set, their experience and their potential while always remaining fully accountable for the performance of your Unit and your people.

You will be responsible for delivering all STP associated with Compliance- Quality, Environmental, H&S, Productivity, waste/variances to standard and labour optimisation in your unit. You will provide direction and motivate your team to ensure everyone is performing their duties and responsibilities. As Unit manager you will also work very closely with internal stakeholders such as Value Add, NPD and the Sales functions to ensure all processes are simplified, implementing improved ways of working, resulting in growth of good and sustainable valued added business.

Flexibility in working hours will be required to ensure alignment on best practices with days/evenings/nights.

Duties and Responsibilites 

  • Support the Head of Production in driving Lean/Optimisation initiatives to include Capex and non-Capex using lean tools such as A3 problem solving
  • Adherence to agreed production schedules
  • Achieve agreed productivity measures and targets
  • Minimise waste as appropriate to the unit
  • Ensure area always stays fit for purpose
  • Minimise downtime
  • Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are adhered to
  • Ensure raw materials are available when needed for production run starts
  • Achieve operational excellence objectives

Unit Quality

  • Implement company GMP policies to maintain standards
  • Facilitate inspections and action inspection reports
  • Ensure quality of product is maintained above required levels
  • Achieve agreed internal and external customer satisfaction targets
  • Finished product quality meets or exceeds customer expectations.

Unit Cost

  • Maximise company EBIT
  • Achieve company cost savings
  • Optimise FTE
  • Control Capex within budget
  • Suggest immediate Capex initiatives to improve the business

Unit Compliance

  • Surpass minimum quality standards and measures
  • Run unit to achieve environmental targets
  • Run unit to achieve health and safety targets
  • Comply with relevant HR policies and procedures
  • Comply with company reporting needs
  • Proactively identify and correct unit risks

Unit People

  • Lead your team and behave in a manner that supports and demonstrates Company values, Challenge, Sense of Urgency & Openness
  • Implement all measures associated with the Management of employees In line with company policies & procedures and employee handbook.
  • Ensure any employee who leave are replaced promptly as required
  • Provide timely informal and formal feedback to all employees in your unit
  • Resolve conflicts informally where possible before escalating as necessary
  • Manage employee absences in line with company policies
  • Manage accidents in line with company policies
  • Development of high-performance Teams (HPT) for your unit.
  • Create functional developmental plans for employees
  • Create developmental plans for Production Leads and Team Leads as necessary
  • Create annual succession plans for your unit
  • Work with senior team to change business culture as per agreed company-wide initiatives
  • Provide clear direction by implementing clear and concise plans and motivating your teams in an FMCG environment.

Requirements 

Experience 

  • Over 5 years FMCG/Production experience of which at least 2 will have been at senior management level.
  • Experience in the Live Food Operations sector

Educational Qualifications

Degree or higher in relevant 3rd level food and/or management course

Skills

  • Expertise and track record in FMCG, food production, Live Operations
  • Possesses a strong understanding and application of forecasting principles, concepts, practices in FMCG.
  • Exceptional analytics capability.
  • Able to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong skills as a negotiator to reach consensus, alignment and commitment
  • Sound organisation and time management skills

Key Performance Indicators 

  1. Meet or exceed Labour cost per kg target
  2. Meet or exceed Optimisation target (Capex or non-Capex)
  3. Meet or exceed Materials utilisation around yields and WGA
  4. Meet or exceed Productivity targets, kg/man/hr targets
  5. All compliances associated with Quality, GMP, H&S, Employee wellbeing, Food safety and Environmental are adhered to and targets set by your direct manager are achieved or exceeded
  6. Assist in the development of STP and initiatives and aligned with the processing STP/New horizons plans for the future.
  7. People skills training and succession plan in place for all team leads with clear and transparent performance appraisals
  8. Standardisation of practices, procedures and policies and consistent approach.
