About the position:
Wind energy is one of the most promising renewable energy sources, and Polytech supports the energy transition by providing reliable solutions that protect and enhance the performance of wind turbine blades.
To further support our customers and continue pushing the forefront of development, we are looking for a new colleague with a Materials & Mechanical Engineering background to join our talented Materials & Structural Engineering department.
In this role, you will drive and support R&D projects and tasks related to enhancing existing products, as well as lead new exciting developments within material technology, novel designs, and bespoke customer requests. You will play a key role in executing our Technology & Innovation strategy across our product portfolio and contribute to building strong links between Technology, Operations, Quality, Business Development, and our customers. It is a particular priority to strengthen our technical competencies within the Subsea and Blade Performance Upgrade business lines. To support this, it is beneficial if you have prior experience working with wind turbine blade aerodynamics and acoustics, as well as a strong foundational understanding of standards and requirements within the wind industry.
As our new Lead Engineer, you will make a visible impact on both the team and the products while taking on challenging tasks that develop your skills. You consistently put customer needs at the center of your work while delivering high-quality engineering solutions that maximize value.
Key responsibilities and tasks:
• Lead Materials & Structural Engineering-related deliverables in new product development projects
• Support the qualification of new materials for new and existing products
• Lead/support the definition and execution of technology strategies
• Lead product design DFMEAs related to the Materials & Structures scope
• Conduct or define the need for advanced analyses
• Define production requirements in collaboration with Operations
• Support our material specialists in maintaining the materials database and improving best practices and internal standards within the team
• Define material and product test programs performed internally or at external laboratories
• Analyze and interpret test data and technical documentation related to material, process, and product derisking
• Present product test results to customers and internal stakeholders
• Support the technical development of junior engineers in the team
• Support Sales and Business Development teams on technical customer inquiries
Your qualifications and skills:
In addition to an engineering degree (M.Sc. in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or similar) and a solid mechanical foundation, we value an open-minded, committed, and independent personality. You are proactive, collaborate naturally with others, and take ownership of getting work done in the best possible way.
• Engineering degree in chemistry, materials, mechanical engineering, or similar
• 5+ years of relevant experience (preferably from the wind industry)
• Strong understanding of material systems, structural design, and qualification, testing, and validation methods, as well as quality requirements
• Tools & methods: FEA, CAD (any), xFMEA, 8D/RCA framework, basic programming for engineering applications
• Strong analytical skills; able to analyze and interpret test data
• Experience with technology/product development projects (including matrix organizations), TRL 0–7
• Able to work independently with well-defined material qualification tasks (planning, testing, documentation) and deliver on time
• Strong communicator in English (written and spoken) across stakeholders
