Eltransmission

Power system engineer for harmonic and reactive power compensation

Would you like to contribute to the development of Denmark's future high-voltage electricity transmission network, where extensive investments are realised in the coming years, as part of the green transition?

As a power system engineer in the Electrical Analysis department, you will have the opportunity to apply your strong knowledge of high voltage power systems, while also having the opportunity to directly influence the future Danish power system in both the design and construction phases. Your new workplace will be at our office in Fredericia.

Become a specialist in harmonic distortion and reactive power compensation

You will join an analysis department consisting of 13 skilled colleagues and specialists responsible for power quality assessment, reactive power compensation and insulation coordination in relation to the design of the future electricity transmission network projects, including connection of renewable electricity and major consumers such as PtX plants. The department has a primary role in solving the technical challenges related to establishment of overhead lines and underground cables, and the transition to a power system consisting of converter-based production and consumption units, as well as new HVDC connections.

You can look forward to an exciting position at a high professional level, with the responsibility of conducting different types of detailed analyses and studies. You will be part of a highly skilled team, where you will have the opportunity to delve further into advanced analysis methods and models for the Danish transmission system. The tasks are therefore specialised and may include the following:

  • Specification of harmonic emission requirements of new converter-based facilities to be connected to the transmission grid and subsequent validation of grid code compliance.
  • Test and quality control of harmonic models provided by clients for new converter-based facilities to be connected to the transmission grid and subsequent validation of grid code compliance.
  • Analysis of harmonic amplification phenomena and levels of harmonic distortion in the power system to assess the need for harmonic filters.
  • Dimensioning and placement of harmonic filters to reduce harmonic distortion at selected system nodes.
  • Design and placement of reactive power compensation for new underground cables, overhead lines and filters.

To succeed in this job, it is important you have an analytical approach to problem solving combined with sound engineering practice and an understanding of electrical systems. You prefer to work primarily with power system analysis and model improvements in DIgSILENT PowerFactory. You review simulation results with a critical view and through your experience with analytical work, contribute to optimising workflows and supporting scripts. Your knowledge could be acquired e.g., during work with grid connection of VE- facilities and the associated studies showing grid code compliance.

Analytical electrical engineer with the ability to collaborate

You have a relevant education e.g., bachelor's or master's degree in power system engineering – ideally combined with 1-3 years of experience in static, dynamic and/or harmonic analyses in PowerFactory e.g., obtained during grid code compliance studies or grid planning. However, you may also be a recent graduate, and we will ensure that the tasks are tailored to your qualifications, which will be developed over time in the department.

Proficiency in English is required, as you will collaborate with both internal and external specialists and colleagues from other TSOs as part of your daily work. Furthermore, you are proficient in oral and written communication, enabling you to make difficult technical matter understandable to other non-technical colleagues and stakeholders.

On a personal level, you will have an analytical and systematic approach to your tasks. You can work independently or in close collaboration in teams and adapt quickly to new and varied activities, just as you are able to further develop and optimise tools and work processes in connection with your tasks.

Special conditions: The job requires that you can obtain and maintain security clearance. On PET's website you can read more about security clearance.
