Principal Investigator – Systems Medicine – Metabolomics
Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen seeks a principal investigator to lead and develop a clinically focused research programme in Systems Medicine / metabolomics  
This is an opportunity to join research at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen (SDCC) – one of the world’s leading specialised diabetes research clinics. You will report to the Head of Research and join the Steno Research management team.The ambition is to apply metabolomics to clinical research and ultimately bring metabolomics into the clinic, potentially promoting personalised medicine. Other research areas at SDCC is Type 1 and Type 2 pathophysiology, complications and clinical epidemiology. 
About the department
At the Systems Medicine/Metabolomics unit we are seven early career scientists and two technicians. We work in national and international projects/consortia focusing on metabolomics in relation to development of type 1 and type 2 diabetes, liver disease and gut microbiota, and diabetic complications. We participate in the strong research community in diabetes, metabolomics and systems medicine within the Copenhagen area.  
The Metabolomics Laboratory is equipped with MS instruments for lipidomics, polar metabolites and multi-targeted analyses and also includes a systems medicine / bioinformatics team.

The job 
  • Your main focus is systems medicine / metabolomics in metabolic diseases  
  • You will lead this unit with the vision to bring metabolomics into our clinical research now, and the ambition to translate this into personalised care in the clinic of the future.  
  • You will develop a research programme ideally with a clinical translational focus.  
  • Based on the overall strategy for SDCC you define the targets and the road map for the research area. 
  • Competitive state-of-the-art innovation is the level we are aiming at.  
  • You will have scope, know-how and visions to lead and develop the team of researchers and other staff and to support and contribute to the collaboration between individual research groups at SDCC as well as other functional areas within SDCC.  


  • You have a relevant academic background with metabolomics laboratory experience,  
  • You are an internationally recognised researcher within your field with a PhD.  
  • Your ambition, drive, endurance and high level of innovation are documented throughout your overall results and publications.  
  • You have a proven track record of management and supervision of young, talented researchers.  
  • Your CV reflects solid experience with scientific collaboration; ideally through international networks/consortia.  
  • In relation to this, you have documented ability to attract substantial external funding.  
  • Foreign applicants are expected to learn Danish for verbal and written communication 
  • Applications from senior researchers aiming at this level are also welcomed.
Salary and conditions
Salary and terms of employement according to regional collective agreement as chief consultant.
