Consultancy in Department of Cardiology or Department of Radiology, Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet combined with a clinical professorship in Cardiology with special focus on Cardiac CT-imaging or Radiology with special focus on Cardiac CT

A clinical position as consultant at the Department of Cardiology or Department of Radiology at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Cardiology with special focus on Cardiac CT-imaging or Radiology with special focus on Cardiac CT-imaging at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENTS

Department of Cardiology: The Heart Centre at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet offers a complex, specialised care programme, which includes: Open heart surgery (coronary bypass procedures and valve surgery), surgery for congenital heart disease, heart (and lung) transplantations, diagnostic and interventional catheterisation procedures (including a 24-hour service of primary percutaneous coronary intervention for acute myocardial infarction), echocardiography, cardiac CT/magnetic resonance imaging, diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology procedures (ablations), permanent pacemaker insertions (including implantable cardiac defibrillators and biventricular pacemakers), percutaneous lead extractions, percutaneous aortic valve insertions and mitral valve repair, stress tests and ECGs. As a unique feature, the Heart Centre has intensive care facilities designed for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survivors and patients with severe acute heart failure with treatment options ranging from intensive medical care to implantation of various types of mechanical circulatory assist devices. Cardiac CT is clinically important and a growing research area. Integration between different diagnostic procedures and cardiac interventions is highly prioritized. Both research and clinical work are done in close collaboration with the Department of Radiology.

Department of Radiology: The department offers radiology services and image guided therapy to patients at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet and several highly specialised functions to patients from all regions in Denmark. The department performs 30.000 MRI examinations, 45.000 CT examinations and more than 80.000 conventional X-ray annually. The department has dedicated programmes for image guided tumour ablation, neurointervention and general vascular/abdominal intervention with 24-hour on call service. The Department has a strong clinical and research connection with clinical departments with several multidisciplinary conferences each day.

The department has a long term both clinical and research collaboration with the Department of cardiology on cardiac CT performed by dedicated technicians on several high-end CT systems.

Research and teaching.

The new clinical professor will be one of several professors focusing on different areas of cardiovascular research. In 2023, the departments published more than 700 publications in national and international journals. With the new joint position as consultant in the Department of Cardiology or the Department of Radiology at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet, and clinical professor at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, the hospital wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Cardiology or Radiology and be experienced in all aspects of Cardiac CT-imaging and other non-invasive diagnostic imaging like MR or echocardiography.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Copenhagen University Hospital - Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the heads of Department of Cardiology and Radiology. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a fulltime secretary position from the department of cardiology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Cardiology and Radiology, Copenhagen University Hospital Rigshospitalet.
