NGI Houston is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Norwegian Geotechnical Institute. We are engaged in challenging offshore assignments both locally and globally. These include full-field geohazard assessments, soil characterisation, foundation design for platforms and subsea structures, mooring anchor designs for floating facilities and pipe-soil interaction. As NGI Houston's activities are increasing, we are seeking qualified geotechnical engineer(s) to join our team and work with improved solutions for the offshore industry.
Geotechnical/Graduate Geotechnical Engineer

We are looking for a dynamic engineer / graduate engineer to join our expanding office in Houston; on an initially short-term contract.  Candidates must be able to contribute positively to our projects and to interact effectively with our Houston, Oslo and Perth teams and with our clients. Candidates must be reliable and systematic, with the ability to work independently and in a team. Good communication skills are a must.  
The primary place of work will be NGI's office in Houston. Candidates should be prepared to travel on project or research assignments as required. Work abroad for shorter or longer periods at NGI's offices in Oslo and Perth may be required. Additionally, work offshore is to be expected. 
Work tasks
Project and Research assignments for oil and gas offshore developments, for example:
  • Planning of site investigations, advanced laboratory testing and interpretation of soil parameters
  • Design of foundation solutions for offshore applications, including platforms, floating facilities, subsea structures and pipelines
  • Numerical analysis within offshore geotechnical applications
  • Offshore supervision of site investigations and foundation installations
  • Project management. 

Qualifications & experience

  • University degree (MSc/ MEng / PhD) in geotechnical or civil engineering, including relevant geotechnical classes
  • Calculation software literacy
  • While not a requirement, we welcome candidates with an interest in emerging fields (e.g. 'big data', artificial intelligence, deep learning)
  • Applicants must have a lawful right to work in the US at the time of application.

  • Relevant industrial experience; or course-based practical assignments.
  • Around one to three years' industrial or research experience in a similar role, including project management 
  • Knowledge of cyclic soil behavior, shear testing, stress path dependent strength, and experience in their application in design. 
We offer
an opportunity to work within NGI's dynamic team in Houston combined with an attractive salary, good benefits and professional development options. The contract is for a short term duration (four to six months), however there may be an opportunity to extend this at a later date. NGI Houston cooperate closely with NGI's headquarter in Oslo, Norway, and the other subsidiary NGI Perth, in Western Australia.
