NGI Houston is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Norwegian Geotechnical Institute. We are engaged in challenging engineering assignments both locally and globally. The majority of our work is in the offshore energy sector (Oil, Gas and Renewables). We are also active in other core NGI market areas (Buildings and infrastructure, Environment and Natural Hazards). Our offshore energy work includes full-field geohazard assessments, soil characterisation, foundation design for platforms, subsea structures and wind turbines, mooring anchor designs for floating facilities and pipe-soil interaction. Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Offshore/Onshore

Overview
 
We are looking for dynamic senior geotechnical engineer(s) to join our expanding office in Houston. Candidates must be able to contribute positively to our projects and to interact effectively with our Perth and Oslo teams and with our clients. Candidates must be reliable and systematic, with the ability to work independently and in a team. Good communication skills are a must.
 
The main focus of the consulting group is the offshore energy sector, however, building and infrastructure skills will be considered favorably; as our laboratory conducts a significant amount of testing in that market.
 
The primary place of work will be NGI's office in Houston. Candidates should be prepared to travel on project or research assignments as required. Work abroad for shorter or longer periods at NGI's offices in Oslo and Perth may be required. Additionally, work offshore / site is to be expected. 
 
 
Work tasks

Project and Research assignments for offshore developments, for example:
 
  • Planning of site investigations, advanced laboratory testing and interpretation of soil parameters
  • Design of foundation solutions for offshore applications, including platforms, floating facilities, subsea structures and pipelines and/ or Design of foundation solutions for onshore applications (buildings, earth retaining structures, bridges, tunnels, infrastructure etc.)
  • Numerical analysis within geotechnical applications
  • Supervision of site investigations and foundation installations
  • Project management. 

Qualifications & experience

  • University degree (MSc/ MEng / PhD) in geotechnical or civil engineering, including relevant geotechnical classes
  • Calculation software literacy
  • While not a requirement, we welcome candidates with an interest in emerging fields (e.g. 'big data', artificial intelligence, deep learning)
  • Applicants must have a lawful right to work in the US at the time of application
  • Meaningful industrial experience in a similar role, including management of technical projects
  • Knowledge in the state of the art foundation design, including knowledge (and preferably) experience in advanced numerical analysis within offshore geotechnical applications
  • Implement project work with optimal technical solutions, agreed deadlines and budgets
  • Display initiative and ingenuity within the project framework, with overall technical and administrative (including economics, progress, quality assurance, safety etc.) responsible for implementation of the project in accordance with the contract.
